In the first half of the program, George Noory was joined by Richard C. Hoagland for a discussion on the potential catastrophic dangers that could result from the accumulation of methane in the Gulf. He pointed to evidence which suggests that a massive bulge of methane is forming beneath the ocean floor. Should it suddenly burst, Hoagland warned, the methane would reduce the buoyancy of the water, causing large ships in the area to “sink like a rock,” killing thousands of people instantly. Subsequently, the collapse of the bulge would cause water to fill the hole and create a tsunami that would hit anyone within a mile or two of the Gulf within minutes. In light of this theory, he posited that the lack of action coming from Washington is because they know of this potential danger and are trying to protect people by not filling the Gulf with boats as part of a clean-up effort.

Unfortunately, Hoagland lamented, since BP’s mud log data is proprietary and unavailable to independent scientists, there is no way of predicting when such an event may occur. Therefore, he urged C2C listeners to contact Louisiana resident and prominent TV pundit James Carville, in the hopes of creating momentum in the mainstream media for this information to be made public. Beyond that, Hoagland’s advice for people in the area was simply “get out of the Gulf region of Mexico because the Feds are not telling you the real danger.” For those residents unable or unwilling to leave the region, he advised that the methane in the air carries a “huge cocktail of bizarre gases” that could prove deadly, immediately or over time, if inhaled. As such, he suggested that people in the area acquire gas masks to breathe and an ozone generator to purify the air, “otherwise, you gotta move, you gotta leave, you can’t keep breathing this air.”

A recent study has found that radiation from cell phones may be killing the honey bee population.

In a recent report in the journal Current Science, scientists are claiming that mobile phones are behind the disappearance of honey bees in Europe and North America.

They say radiation from cell phones is getting in the way of honey bees’ navigation senses, making them so confused they lose their way home.

This new research may explain why the bee population has declined for years in what’s being called Colony Collapse Disorder.

NBC 25 talked with Gary Briggs, a local beekeeper who says something needs to be done about this, because it’s becoming harder and harder to keep his bees alive.

“If we keep losing bees, pretty soon we are going to lose our food supply. So it’s a serious deal, and the sooner they can find out what’s causing it or what culmination of affects, is what I think we need to get to,” said Beekeeper Gary Briggs.

Biologists are saying that the signal coming from cell phones and their towers can be modified so that it doesn’t produce the frequency that disrupts a bees’ navigation.

And while Briggs says cell phone radiation may play a role, he’s convinced an increased use of insecticides is also contributing.

Israel troops are conducting military drills to get prepared for being deployed in Lebanon, in a move Tel Aviv says is aimed at preventing “rocket attacks by Hezbollah,” Israeli sources say.

Israel is conducting drills at its Elyakim training base, near Haifa, to simulate attacks on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, Haaretz reported.

An Israeli colonel told Haaretz that the US military officers had advised Israel to deploy its soldiers in Lebanon during the 33-day war in 2006, hinting that Israel will do so in any offensive on Lebanon in the future.

The Elyakim base is covered with many simulated minefields and camouflaged bunkers. Israeli troops are exercising to pass those spots and find “rocket sites,” the report added.

According to the plan, Israeli troops will then be transported to Golan Heights by helicopters to be trained conducting other operations.

NURSES are to be sent out to the homes of families who have not had their children vaccinated against measles, mumps and rubella.The number of city youngsters who have had the vaccination has been rising steadily for the past two years.

But between January and March this year the rate for Nottingham dipped to under 86% for five-year-olds.

Hundreds of children are still not being given the first jab at 13 months or the booster at three years, despite reminders from their GPs.

And Nottingham’s primary care trust has now sent nurses to the homes of some of these families to ensure they are immunised.

A four-month pilot scheme was run with four GP practices until May – and may be rolled out to other parts of the city if judged a success.

Nurses or health visitors go to the homes of children whose families have failed to respond to requests to get vaccinated three times.

Caroline Jordan, senior nurse in public health at NHS Nottingham City, said some families had trouble accessing GP practices to get the jab.

GPs have incentives in their contracts to get children vaccinated, and practices often phone families who have not had the jab.

Miss Jordan said: “There has been some opportunistic vaccination but we are trying to put in place is a more systematic approach to that.

“There are lots of things that the practices are already doing, but for some families it is hard for them to engage with them.”

The current low rate of uptake in Notts is thought to be putting youngsters at higher risk of becoming ill.

The most recent figures for this year show 85.6% of city five-year-olds have been given the MMR vaccine.

Officials from NHS Nottingham City are soon to visit Leicester, which has a better rate of MMR vaccine take-up.

And experts from the Department of Health’s Vaccination and Immunisation National Support Team recently visited to help the city boost its uptake rate.

Despite a study showing a link between MMR and autism being discredited, some parents are still concerned about getting the jab.

But NHS officials in the city are keen to promote the importance of getting immunised to stop children becoming ill.

Paul Ward and wife Laura, of Wollaton, have had son Jacob, 2, immunised against measles, mumps and rubella.

Mr Ward, 40, who runs a dad and toddler club, said he was conscious about the publicity over the alleged link to autism.

But he said: “We thought it would have affected his health if he had not had the MMR jab.

“We had to weigh the threat of autism up against what he might get if he got measles, mumps or rubella.”
