Vatican: Ordination Of Women A ‘Grave Crime’
VATICAN CITY — The Vatican issued a revised set of in-house rules Thursday to respond to clerical sex abuse, targeting priests who molest the mentally disabled as well as children and priests who use child pornography, but making few substantive changes to existing practice.
The new rules make no mention of the need for bishops to report clerical sex abuse to police, provide no canonical sanctions for bishops who cover up for abusers and do not include any “one-strike and you’re out” policy for pedophile priests as demanded by some victims.
As a result, they failed to satisfy victims’ advocates, who said the revised rules amounted to little more than “administrative housekeeping” of existing practice when what was needed were bold new rules threatening bishops who fail to report molester priests.
The rules cover the canonical penalties and procedures used for the most grave crimes in the church, both sacramental and moral, and double the statute of limitations applied to them. One new element included lists the attempted ordination of women as a “grave crime” subject to the same set of procedures and punishments meted out for sex abuse.

All of this is being covered up by the whole of the Scottish and British political and legal establishment which is evidence of a major paedophile ring within that establishment which is under the control of the First Minister and leader of the Scottish National Party, Alex Salmond.

Flights to and from Greece grounded as country faces more strikes

Government offices were closed, hospitals worked with a skeleton staff and Greek airspace was shut down as Greece faced its seventh major strike against austerity measures on Thursday.
Greek public sector workers were joined on Thursday by air traffic controllers and doctors in a nationwide strike against the labor reforms and austerity measures the government has unveiled to solve its debt crisis.
Flights to and from Greece were grounded, hospitals operated with emergency staff only and tax, municipal and judicial offices remained closed across Greece. According to officials at Athens’ International Airport, more than 60 international and domestic flights were cancelled, with another 131 rescheduled. Air traffic controllers are expected to be back on the job by 1 p.m. local time.
Later on Thursday, the civil servants union Adedy was planning to stage a demonstration outside of parliament, where lawmakers are preparing to pass a major retirement reform bill. Rallies were expected in Thessaloniki as well as Athens.

Previously secret papers that have been disclosed include a number implicating Tony Blair’s office in many of the events that are to be the subject of the judicial inquiry that David Cameron announced last week.
Among the most damning documents are a series of interrogation reports from MI5 officers that betray their disregard for the suffering of a British resident whom they were questioning at a US airbase in Afghanistan. The documents also show that the officers were content to see the mistreatment continue.
One of the most startling documents is chapter 32 of MI6′s general procedural manual, entitled “Detainees and Detention Operations”, which advises officers that among the “particular sensitivities” they need to consider before becoming directly involved in an operation to detain a terrorism suspect is the question of whether “detention, rather than killing, is the objective of the operation”.
Other disclosed documents show how:
• The Foreign Office decided in January 2002 that the transfer of British citizens from Afghanistan to Guantánamo was its “preferred option”.
• Jack Straw asked for that rendition to be delayed until MI5 had been able to interrogate those citizens.
• Downing Street was said to have overruled FO attempts to provide a British citizen detained in Zambia with consular support in an attempt to prevent his return to the UK, with the result that he too was “rendered” to Guantánamo.

Israel firm charged in nuclear case

An investigation in the United States has charged a US-based Israeli company with attempting to export nuclear weapons-related material to Israel.
The investigation conducted by the Bureau of Industry and Security says Israeli company, Pelogy, attempted to export controlled goods to Israel, India, China and South Africa. It says in the case of Israel and India, the goods could have been used to make nuclear weapons.
The charges against the company comes after Israeli sources declared earlier in July that the US secretly given a “written guarantee” to Israel that obliges Washington to sell Israel nuclear fission materials.
Washington has also vowed to “publicly announce” that Israel is a responsible entity and can “contain its capabilities,” the sources said.
Israel is widely believed to be the only possessor of nuclear firepower throughout the Middle East. Since 1958, when Israel began building its Dimona nuclear facility, it has reportedly manufactured scores of nuclear warheads.
Most experts estimate that Israel has between 100 and 200 nuclear warheads, largely based on information leaked to the Sunday Times newspaper in the 1980s by Mordechai Vanunu, a former worker at the Dimona nuclear reactor.
Israel which has initiated several wars in the region in its 60-year-old history of occupation maintains a policy of deliberate ambiguity over its nuclear weapons program.

BP Says Cap Is Repaired and Oil Cutoff Test Can Proceed
Overnight, engineers using remotely operated submersibles replaced equipment on the tight-sealing cap at the top of well, 5,000 feet under water, said Kent Wells, a senior vice president of the company.
The equipment, part of a choke line that will be the last valve to be closed during the test, had been found to be leaking late Wednesday.
With the repair made, “we’re looking to start this test as soon as we possibly can,” Mr. Wells said Thursday morning in a conference call with reporters.
While the faulty equipment was being swapped out, Mr. Wells said, containment systems that had been shut down Wednesday afternoon were restarted. That meant collection of oil began again, as did flaring of oil and gas from booms on two surface ships. The flames had been extinguished Wednesday in preparation for the test.
The test involves closing valves on the new cap, which was installed earlier in the week, to increase pressure in the well so that BP can assess its condition over the length of the well bore, which extends 13,000 feet below the seabed.
The delay for repairs was the second in as many days. On Tuesday, the government had asked BP to postpone the test for 24 hours while scientists reviewed the procedures. Officials were concerned about the possibility that the test itself might damage the well.
The decision was made to allow the test to begin Wednesday, with some modifications.
On Wednesday, Thad W. Allen, the retired Coast Guard admiral who is leading the response, said that the test results would provide crucial information about the well’s condition, and “would determine our confidence to shut the well in and understand we’re not harming the well bore.”

Buried in a Financial Times article about Obama’s “growing credibility crisis” and fears on behalf of Democrats that they could lose not only the White House but also the Senate to Republicans, Robert Shapiro makes it clear that Obama is relying on an October surprise in the form of a terror attack to rescue his presidency.
“The bottom line here is that Americans don’t believe in President Obama’s leadership,” said Shapiro, adding, “He has to find some way between now and November of demonstrating that he is a leader who can command confidence and, short of a 9/11 event or an Oklahoma City bombing, I can’t think of how he could do that.”
Shapiro’s veiled warning should not be dismissed lightly. He was undersecretary of commerce for economic affairs dung Clinton’s tenure in the Oval Office and also acted as principal economic adviser to Clinton in his 1991-1992 campaign. Shapiro is now Director of the Globalization Initiative of NDN and also Chair of the Climate Task Force. He is a prominent globalist who has attended numerous Bilderberg Group meetings over the past decade.

Via Ben Smith at Politico, we learn that the usual suspects have started yet another organization whose objective is to promote a hard-right, Likudnik agenda in the Middle East. The new group apparently intends to go after anyone who thinks U.S. Middle East policy has been less than totally successful in recent years, and who is willing to think for themselves (and U.S. interests), instead of reflexively echoing the positions favored by AIPAC and other groups in the “status quo” lobby.
To be more specific, Smith reports that hardline neoconservatives such as William Kristol, Michael Goldfarb, Noah Pollak, and Rachel Abrams have joined forces (again) with rightwing Christian evangelical Gary Bauer to establish a new group: the “Emergency Committee for Israel.” The group says it is going to target candidates in key Senate and Congressional races, along with the Obama administration. It is directing its initial salvo (in the form of a TV ad) at Congressman Joe Sestak (D-PA), who defeated incumbent Arlen Spector in the Democratic primary and is now running for the Senate. Sestak was targeted because he had the temerity not to sign an AIPAC-sponsored letter awhile back, and though he’s a strong defender of Israel, he’s been critical of Israel’s counterproductive blockade of Gaza.
