(NaturalNews) Newsweek has published a feature article exposing what many psychology researchers refer to as “the dirty little secret”: that antidepressant drugs do not work any better than placebo pills.

Author Sharon Begley notes that while antidepressants do in fact cause improvement in 75 percent of patients, so do placebo pills. In a landmark 1998 study, researchers Irving Kirsch and Guy Sapirstein found that a full 75 percent of antidepressants’ effectiveness could be attributed to the placebo effect.

Upon facing criticism for not including every study in their analysis, Kirsch and Sapirstein used the Freedom of Information Act to acquire data from all corporate-funded antidepressant studies submitted to the FDA. Two interesting facts emerged. First, the researchers found that 40 percent of studies conducted had gone unpublished, significantly higher than the 22 percent for other drugs.

“By and large, the unpublished studies were those that failed to show a significant benefit,” Kirsch said.

Is the Next Global Food Crisis Now in the Making?

Recent weeks have produced a series of grim and related headlines: Russia has declared a state of emergency because of drought in 12 regions, while in major wheat exporter Ukraine, severe flooding may depress crop yields. Dry conditions threaten Vietnamese rice production. The USDA has projected a disappointingly low Midwest harvest, and China has raised questions on the demand side by doubling its imports from Canada.

Fortunately, this run of unfavorable farming news follows strong harvests that for now should keep grain prices in check, according to the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization. But to see the effects of a bad year for food — and what the world could be in for if the present trend persists — one only has to look to 2008.

Two years ago, a confluence of environmental causes compounded by rising fuel costs and a global credit crunch caused food prices to skyrocket an average of 43 percent worldwide, leading to starvation and riots from Mexico to Bangladesh.

Some are worried that was just a warning.

In a new book, “Empires of Food,” journalist Andrew Rimas and Leeds University agricultural researcher Evan Fraser examine civilizations from Mesopotamia to Rome to Great Britain. They argue that every empire was made possible by agriculture, and that when those agricultural systems failed, the empires they supported failed with them.

Fraser and Rimas worry that the food system in place today is built around nitrogen-based fertilizers that require petroleum to create, as well as good weather that’s graced the world since the dust bowl. If fuel prices go up again, or if the weather gets worse, they say, we could see our food empire unravel as well.

“Even leaving climate change aside, we know that we have enjoyed good weather relative to the historic average,” Fraser told AOL News. “To a certain extent it’s cyclical, and that would lead us to expect crummy growing seasons in the decades ahead.”

If anyone thinks that these, and I hate to call them people, actually write any of this complete crap, then stop reading here.

These lunatics, although their corruption is well known, especially Mandelson’s who’s been thrown out of government twice for corruption, cannot be seen to be profiting from their positions whilst they’re in power.

So, what happens when they apparently leave power? Well, the first thing is usually the ‘memoirs’ apparently detailing their sordid adventures in politics. These are a complete whitewash and are simply produced, first and foremost, to further muddy the waters and hide the lies and corruption of the past through stupid stories of political intrigues and infighting amongst those puppets allegedly running the country. This applies in every so called ‘democratic’ nation state, although in Europe there are no such things anymore thanks to the likes of Mandelson and his criminal cohorts who back him.

These ‘books’ are not even written by the crooks whose lives they claim to be reporting on. They are indeed written by what are known as ‘ghostwriters’ who produce these scurrilous documents well in advance of the seeming demise of their subjects.

They are nothing less than massive payoffs to the likes of Mandelson and Blair for their work in promoting the agenda of the world’s elites, namely the international bankers who are in the early stages of completely destroying the Western world’s economy. Oh yes folks, if you think this version of ‘austerity’ is bad, be warned, you ain’t seen nothing yet!

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says the intelligence services of the US, Israel and Britain were the main supporters of the recent terrorist attacks in Iran.

“One of the main objectives the enemy pursued through the terrorist attack in Iran’s southeastern city of Zahedan was to create division and religious dissension,” Ayatollah Khamenei said on Wednesday.

At least 27 people lost their lives and more than 100 others were injured after two bombs went off in quick succession outside the Zahedan Grand Mosque in Sistan-Baluchestan Province on July 15. The attack has widely been blamed on extremist Wahabis and Salafis trained by US intelligence in Pakistan.

Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that the Islamic Republic would not allow arrogant powers to obtain their objectives and urged all Iranian officials to “firmly and seriously” confront the enemies of the country’s solidarity and security.

“Their animosity with the Islamic Republic stems from Iran’s adherence to Islam and its repeated call for unity, strength and Islamic dignity,” the Leader said.

DENVER — A United Airlines jetliner was diverted to Denver on Tuesday after experiencing “significant turbulence,” injuring about 30 people onboard, one seriously, a fire official said.

The flight originated at Dulles International Airport near Washington, D.C., and was headed to Los Angeles.

It landed safely around 7:45 p.m. at Denver International Airport, where medical crews met the plane, Denver Fire Department spokesman Eric Tade said.

Denver Health spokeswoman Dee Martinez said 21 people were being transported to five area hospitals. She released no information on the extent of their injuries.

However, Tade said one person was seriously hurt, while the other injuries included bruises, whiplash, strains and sprains. He said some people were treated at the scene.

“There are mostly walking injuries,” Tade told The Denver Post. “They are treating patients now.”

United spokesman Michael Trevino told the Post that four of the injured were flight attendants and the rest were passengers.

There’s been lots of talk lately about body scanners — the new airport security tool that allows screeners to see through clothes. People are concerned about privacy, delayed flights, health effects.

Now there’s another concern. What about kids? Do they have to go through this, too? And what are parents’ rights?

A Baltimore family is raising the issue after their 12-year-old daughter was pulled out of line in Tampa and subjected to what they say was an embarrassing and unhealthy scan. The girl was traveling with an adult friend of the family, not her parents.

“Our daughter was scared and didn’t understand what was happening,” said Michelle Nemphos, the mother of the girl. She declined to give her daughter’s name. “In essence they conducted a strip search on a 12-year-old girl without her parents present to advocate for her.”

The girl told her story in a phone interview:

Okay, I was coming home to Baltimore, Md., from Siesta Key, Fla., and I was with my friend and her parents and I was going to this airport security check.

I put my bag through, and they pulled me aside and told me to go over here. I thought it was some high-tech scan and I walked right through it and this lady said ‘”Hold on, you can’t just walk through this thing. Put your feet on the yellow footsteps and make a triangle above your head.” I guess it was so they could see my whole body.

I heard a beep and she said, “Okay you can leave.”

I heard one of the guards say “affirmative on the female,” and I knew they were talking about me. And that made me worried.

I couldn’t see my friend and her dad, and I was really worried that I was separated from them. I was trying to look happy when I saw them but inside I was really scared.

Sarkozy’s bad week

As if his marital challenges were not enough cause for concern, “Sarco the Sayan” has suddenly emerged as the most infamous accolade of French President Nicolas Sarkozy. The influential French daily Le Figaro last week revealed that the French leader once worked for — and perhaps still does, it hinted — Israeli intelligence as a sayan (Hebrew for helper), one of the thousands of Jewish citizens of countries other than Israel who cooperate with the katsas (Mossad case-officers).

A letter dispatched to French police officials late last winter — long before the presidential election but somehow kept secret — revealed that Sarkozy was recruited as an Israeli spy. The French police is currently investigating documents concerning Sarkozy’s alleged espionage activities on behalf of Mossad, which Le Figaro claims dated as far back as 1983. According to the author of the message, in 1978, Israeli prime minister Menachem Begin ordered the infiltration of the French ruling Gaullist Party, Union pour un Mouvement Populaire. Originally targeted were Patrick Balkany, Patrick Devedjian and Pierre Lellouche. In 1983, they recruited the “young and promising” Sarkozy, the “fourth man”.

Ex-Mossad agent Victor Ostrovsky describes how sayanim function in By Way Of Deception: The Making and Unmaking of a Mossad Officer. They are usually reached through relatives in Israel. An Israeli with a relative in France, for instance, might be asked to draft a letter saying the person bearing the letter represents an organisation whose main goal is to help save Jewish people in the Diaspora. Could the French relative help in any way? They perform many different roles. A car sayan, for example, running a rental car agency, could help the Mossad rent a car without having to complete the usual documentation. An apartment sayan would find accommodation without raising suspicions, a bank sayan could fund someone in the middle of the night if needs be, a doctor sayan would treat a bullet wound without reporting it to the police.

And, a political sayan ? It’s rather obvious what this could mean. The sayanim are a pool of people at the ready who will keep quiet about their actions out of loyalty to “the cause”, a non-risk recruitment system that draws from the millions of Jewish people outside Israel.

Such talk sends chills down spines, especially Arab and Muslim ones. Indeed, the revelation did not go unnoticed in Arab capitals or come as much of a surprise. Paris can be a sunny place for shady people. When it comes to intelligence gathering on behalf of Israel, a question mark is immediately raised on the moral calibre of the person in question. But, how does this scandal influence France’s foreign and domestic politics?

Scientists expressing grave concern about the unprecedented aerial spraying of chemical dispersants in the Gulf of Mexico region believe a large-scale, uncontrolled non-consensual human and environmental experiment is being conducted in the Gulf region according to reports sent to the writer including one from the “Ocean Doctor” David E. Guggenheim, Ph.D.

Guggenheim is president of 1planet1ocean, a project of The Ocean Foundation of which he is a Senior Fellow.

“Corexit aerial sprayed is one of the most toxic dispersants and one of the least effective on Louisiana crude oil,” states Guggenheim.

“The mixture of Corexit and oil represents an even greater threat as the toxic effects are magnified according to independent scientists and researchers,”

Guggenheim is inviting more scientists to support the immediate halt of the chemical spraying.

“The dispersant-oil mixture is killing marine wildlife, including dolphins, whales and fish, while also causing a range of serious human health effects to those who have been exposed,” reads part of the statement that 1plant1ocean is calling more scientists to sign. (Emphasis added)

The statement calls on the “Obama Administration, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, to immediately halt the use of chemical dispersants in the Gulf of Mexico.”

Gathering more evidence with NBC

Sunday, Guggenheim and Dr. Susan Shaw, Director of the Marine Environmental Research Institute, Blue Hill, Maine, were out on a boat in the Gulf region taking water, oyster and fish samples for analysis.

“We are especially interested in analysis of the toxic effects of the mixture of dispersant and oil,” stated Guggenheim.

An NBC camera crew was with the two scientists and Guggenheim says it will soon be airing its reports.
