Safety Alert #: EX SA 013
Energy Saving Bulbs have been in existence for a long time now. As the name indicates, these bulbs are
more effective as compared to an ordinary bulb in terms of power consumption. Most of us are currently
using these bulbs in order to save on electricity consumption and ultimately the electricity bill!

Energy Saving Bulbs will come in different shapes on the market with different ratings in terms of Voltage
or Watts and they will definitely save our pockets especially that, we are buying electricity in our
respective houses.
- Some Health and Safety issues on these Low – Energy Light Bulbs
However. these types of bulbs, if broken, cause serious danger.
• If one breaks, everybody will have to leave the room for at least 15 minutes, because it contains
Mercury (poisonous) which causes migraine, disorientation, imbalances and different other
health problems, when inhaled.
• It causes many people with allergies, severe skin conditions and other diseases just by touching
this substance or inhaling it.
• Do NOT clean the debris of the broken bulb with a vacuum cleaner, because it would spread the
contamination to other rooms in the house when using the vacuum cleaner again.
It must be cleaned up with a normal broom or brush be kept in a sealed bag and disposed of
right away from the house in a bin for hazardous materials.
WARNING: Mercury is dangerous, more poisonous than lead or arsenic!
Below is the advice on what to do if a Low – energy light bulb breaks be it at home or areas where these
bulbs can be found:
1. Evacuate the room, taking care not to step on the shards of glass littering the floor
2. Do not use a vacuum cleaner to clear up the mess as the machines sucking action could spread
toxic mercury droplets around the house.
3. Put on Rubber gloves and sweep the debris onto the dustpan
4. Place the remains in a plastic bag and seal it.
5. Do not put the plastic in a normal household bin.
6. Instead, place it in a municipal recycling bin for batteries which also contain mercury or take it to
a council dump where it can be disposed of safely. As LMC Residents, we can make use of
separate Black Refuse Plastic Bags with emphasis on advice number 5 above.
7. Try not to inhale dust from the broken bulb.
Attached is photo’s from a person who stepped onto a broken bulb on the 10″‘ February 2011, and
his foot got infected with mercury poisoning

It is far past time to demand sanity in government and get rid of the schizophrenia. Once again the whores in CONgress have proven clueless about health and the enviroment. While the autism debate rages on the neurotoxic properties of mercury have been known for decades if not centuries(mad hatters to daguerreotypes to current medical studies) yet the EPA and FDA and even the DOE all have different standards that contradict each other but ALL end up screwing the consumer by allowing dangerously toxic amounts of mercury into the body/enviroment.
I constantly struggle with the thought of boxing up and sending expired bulbs to my legislators to drive home the facts they are so desperate to ignore because in today’s upside down world I would be called a terrorist or something.

@theo, Yes. The argument is so obvious to those that know that not only are “they” out to exploit and make as much profit as they can, “they” are also out to reduce the world population drastically. The middle idiots that serve the psychopaths are just that – simpletons that can only see profits and no further. I can’t wait for the day when these fuckers have their moments of realisation. That realisation will be so horrific that we won’t need a guillotine or rope – the bastard will mentally implode – never to darken humanities doorstep again.

This is just choice the greenies are saving the earth by polluting our drinking water with the second most toxic substance on earth. There is enough MERCURY in a cfl to make toxic 6000 gallons of water according to the EPA. How many light bulbs are broken in America in the average day? Each breakage is a toxic waste event according to the EPA. How many people are going to properly dispose of these little toxic bombs?
Folks THIS is terrorism.

I had just an incident this morning, while moving a stand lamp with the SEB, I was moving it and lifted it. The bulb hit the ceiling and it broke in my bedroom. I called for my husband who told me to sit on the bed, which was exposed, while he cleaned up the area and then vaccume it. We had to get to church and when I got back I am now looking up who can I contact to report this incident. I fear for my grandchildren, parents and other grandparents after seeing some of the images on the Safty Alert EX SA 013. Where is my goverment officials who want to be elected. Why are you not taking this on. I am a nurse and I fear for what can happen to our country. I am also a christian and I am lifting this situation to the Lord. I have told my sunday school members and I am going to tell everyone I know and show them the pictures I saw. God Bless US ALL.

I believe the images to be bogus. I would say it isn’t an official Westrac Safety Alert (can’t find any such document on their website). Also too poorly written and no disclaimers or official copyright, dates etc … which make me think it is a fake.
